Lidl Greece invests in the local community by supporting the Food Bank Network.
With a focus on society and the environment, the support for the Food Banks is expanding, aiming to reduce food waste, protect the environment, and support those in need.

Lidl Greece, as part of its sustainability strategy and Corporate Responsibility, announces the expansion of its support to the Food Bank Network for 2024 with a donation of €30,000. This amount will be allocated to cover the operational costs of the Food Banks operating in regional areas, as well as for the pilot use of a ew food donation management application. At the same time, this donation will emphasize both the support of newer Food Banks and the improvement of the network’s operations, with multiplying benefits for the future.
Lidl Greece’s collaboration with the Food Bank began with the Athens and Thessaloniki Food Banks in 2022. Since then, in addition to this year’s financial support, the company has been donating products from its central warehouses in Athens and Thessaloniki. These products, while suitable for consumption, are unsellable for various reasons, such as nearing expiration dates or packaging defects, with the most likely outcome being their destruction and negative environmental impact.
Thessaloniki, in Thessaly (Larissa), in Drama, in Epirus (Arta and Ioannina), in Heraklion Crete, in Patra and Athens. It is worth noting that Food Banks are founded in cities with a sufficient population to support their activities in the food production and commerce sectors, while their initiatives are supported by volunteers.
The goal of this collaboration between Lidl Greece and the Food Bank, is to contribute to environmental protection, by utilizing surplus food under the central slogan «We don’t waste anything!». At the same time, raising public awareness about food waste, aims to foster an environmentally friendly mindset. By supporting thousands of people who are unable to feed themselves properly, they contribute directly to reducing food insecurity. Overall, for 2023, the Food Bank has supported over 120,000 beneficiaries, while the company has donated more than 40 tons of food..
This collaboration falls under the “Good for the Environment” field, with a key pillar being Resource Conservation, and is fully aligned with Lidl Greece’s sustainability strategy. The company continues to actively support local communities and invest in initiatives that promote ustainable developments and social well-being.
