Food waste has a huge environmental impact, accounting for 252 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent or around 16% of total greenhouse gas emissions from the EU food system .
A household of four will save on average around 400 euros per year if food waste is reduced.
In 30 European countries, 351 Food Banks operate every day to reduce waste and food insecurity. In 2022, 876,316 tons of food were given to people in need.
In Greece, in 2022 the Food Banks managed 1,972 tons of products from corporate donations.
