In Greece, 2,048,189 tons of food are wasted every year (Eurostat).

Food production and marketing companies waste 525,630 tons of food every year in Greece. Many of these foods could be made available for free for human consumption (Eurostat).

Food waste has a huge environmental impact, accounting for 252 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent or around 16% of total greenhouse gas emissions from the EU food system.

A household of four will save on average around 400 euros per year if food waste is reduced. Each of us throws away 87 kgr of food per year (Eurostat).

In 30 European countries, 351 Food Banks operate every day to reduce waste and food insecurity. In 2022, 876,316 tons of food were given to people in need.

In Greece, in 2022 the Food Banks managed 1,972 tons of products from corporate donations.
