Emergency Food Fund for Ukraine.
As thousands of Ukrainian refugees found a way out in neighbouring Romania, the Romanian Food Bank, local organisations and the Romanian authorities were called upon to help these people by providing safety, food and temporary shelter.
From the first days of the war the Romanian Food Bank took care of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees.
Now, around 9,000 Ukrainians are receiving its help, with food offers constantly being reduced.

Με την υποστήριξη της Ομοσπονδίας Τραπεζών Τροφίμων Ευρώπης, ο Γεν. Διευθυντής της Τράπεζας Τροφίμων κ.Δ.Νέντας επισκέφθηκε το Βουκουρέστι, ώστε να συζητήσει από κοντά τις ανάγκες για τους Ουκρανούς πρόσφυγες, αλλά και τον αντίκτυπο που έχει η βοήθεια από την Τράπεζα Τροφίμων της Ελλάδας.
Most of the Ukrainian refugees are already in apartments in Bucharest, funded by the European Union, while fewer are sheltering in structures.
In the centre of Bucharest more than 300 families, with young children and elderly people, are receiving bags of food, while just outside the city an old school provides shelter for around 200 people. The classrooms of the school became rooms, while some families found temporary accommodation in the closed stadium of the old school. Ακόμα διατηρούν την ελπίδα τους ότι θα επιστρέψουν στην Ουκρανία, γι’ αυτό πολλοί από αυτούς ταξιδεύουν συχνά πίσω, για να επιστρέψουν ξανά στην Ρουμανία, μετά από λίγο.
The thanks of the Food Bank of Romania were touching, as over time the donations are fewer and fewer. The Emergency Food Fund for Ukraine was able to cover the reduction in donations until alternatives could be found to support these people.

…. now the Romanian Food Bank supports 95 local organisations, with around 8,859 refugees. Most of them are in Bucharest and its suburbs, Oradea, Cluj, Timisoara and Brasov. Some organisations have returned to its main mission [which was not to support refugees], while others have been unable to find the space, staff, and financial resources to continue.

Το Emergency Food Fund είναι ένα πρόγραμμα ‘ομπρέλα’ που περιλαμβάνει διακριτές δράσεις αγοράς τροφίμων, από συγκεκριμένους χρηματοδότες, για διατροφικές ανάγκες ευπαθών κοινωνικών ομάδων. The program started in mid-2020, due to the new needs arising from the epidemic.
